Posts: 384 Aug 12 05 6:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I may not be totally bang up on my bow vocab, but I do know that longbows are selfbows. In England, we get raised on lore of the longbow. It's pretty much the only bow kids know.

I often get kids coming up to me and telling me about bows, and they get their facts wrong and all sorts. Like "an English longbow can shoot a man dead at 250 yards". Yeah, if you shot it from the top of a cliff. With a wind to carry the arrow along. And they also believe that you can only make bows out of yew. C'est terrible!

Posts: 605 Aug 13 05 9:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	im English...... born and bred, self bows are made out of one peice of wood, not all ELB are selfbows some well most knowadays in england are laminated , with lemonwood hickory and sometimes with a core of purpleheart or something ,making them not a selfbow, try not to get confused about English longbows being always a selfbow!

Posts: 0 Aug 13 05 9:46 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I am confused here as I thought that a selfbow was an all wooden bow made by the archer oneself in a "classical" manner. This makes a laminated all wood bow as much a selfbow as a one piece wood bow is in my eyes, unless I have totally mistaken the notion of the Selfbow.

Posts: 605 Aug 13 05 9:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	yes laminated is still all wood bow, but has a backing which is a different peice of wood, a selfbow hasent got any different woods on it but its own which makes it a selfbow- selfbows are made out of one peice of wood
