An incredible work of Art - The late Phil Churchhill's largest Danish Dagger
While attending the Bitterroot Valley Knap-in this year, my wife and I drove over to visit our good friend Karen Rayner, wife of the late Jim Rayner. Jim was an accomplished knapper in his own right but he also collected knapped art from some of the best knappers anywhere. Jim and Karen were good friends with the late Phil Churchill and purchased quite a few pieces of Phil's knapped art works. One piece in particular stands out - a Danish Dagger made from Davis Creek Rainbow (unfortunately the weather and this photographer could not do the rainbow justice). According to Karen, Phil said that this was the largest dagger he'd ever made. And while I did not measure it, I believe it was over 20" in length.
Regardless, it is a spectacular Danish Dagger! Here is Karen holding the dagger and close-ups of both sides! For more of Phil's work please visit his art gallery on the PSK website here: http://www.pugetsoundknappers.com/interesting_stuff/Phil_Churchill_Art.html
