hi this spring, early spring i tanned a hair on deer hide. i had a pile of leaves last fall and scraps of bark from my wood pile and boiled that up. then id strain it add more leaves and bark to the water boil, strain repaeat ect ect several times until my water was a dark brown/red color. at which time i put it in the garage uncovered till this spring. i had a hair on rawhide cape i applied the mix too. let it set a few days then added more to it. at which time i folded it on itself skin to skin and rolled it up. placed in a bucket. every couple days id add more mix on it. then after a couple weeks i put it on a stretcher, stretched it untill soft and dry. then i smoked it.came out pretty. and soft. made a quiver and strap. also a deerskin hat which i wear every chance i get lol . i will add more pics later. a replica of a Odawa scalloped bow i took dimentions from the smithonian museum example.pulls 45 pounds at 22 inches. self bow. made of American elm. along with a deerhide quiver and strap. strap was made from pieces of belly hair on hide.
