I've prepared some arrow shafts. They're straight and smooth but I'm finding it very hard to cut notches at either end for the nock and the projectile seating. I can get down to a good depth with some flint I knapped but the channels are very irregular in width and always narrower the further down I get. Just how do people get them looking smooth, tidy and regular width all the way down so they can accomodate a projectile point or string? Obviously there's sandpaper but going caveman style what is the alternative?
