I am sad to report that on February 17 Are Tsirk passed away after a difficult struggle with cancer. A student of Don Crabtree, he was a peerless scholar and flintknapper with a focus on blading (a term he coined) and square-section axes, who harmonized the discipline of knapping with the science of fracture mechanics. Invariably kind and humble, he carried himself with dignity and treated others with respect. If he was absent from an event, he was always missed, with many folks asking about him. Are was generous in sharing his knowledge, good humor and wit, a friend to many of us.
