Posts: 239 Feb 19 12 5:31 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I live in Rochester Indiana and I am having trouble finding flint stones. Any suggestions on where I could look that may have a large supply of flint, any flint i have found is little tiny pieces that may actually be petrified wood and not flint. Oh and flint is black correct? I have heard it can be different colours.

Posts: 180 Feb 23 12 7:44 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Jeremiah, There are quite a few members on here who sell flint & other stones for knapping, I have the same problem as you in finding the raw rock in the fields of northern IN. but have found a good alternative to rock like Obisidean over at the local glass replacement businesses here. Find the places that replace windows for commercial buildings & see if they have any scraps that are headed to the dumpster. I`ve made deals with a couple places here in Elkhart that give me the "drops" in exchange for a few points &/or blades. I`ve even made up a couple knives hafted to deer antler tines that they now have in their display cases alongside products that they offer to customers. If you hand the guy in charge a business card with your info on it, you`ll look more professional & might get more traction that way. Learning on glass is a lot cheaper than paying freight on stone that you can`t locate locally. Maybe you can post a point or 2 that you`ve made for us to see? Also, you being from Rochester, have you taken the time to stop off at the "Trail of Courage" rendezvous there? I`ve seen Dave Short, a local knapper from the South Bend area there demonstrating the craft & selling several types of stone. You might try Ed Moser from Monon, Flintknapper742? He`s got a store @ www.FlintKnappers.com Jim Wynn aka Paleomanjim, Arron Lincoln is another local guy you might try to contact, I met him thru Ed Moser, both of them have a store there as well & both sell at good prices & are good people to deal with. There are many others on here who you can make deals with, ask around on the other areas of the forum, you never know who might be able to use the things you`ve got to trade.
