Yeah, we have Monterey Chert along the coast, mostly concentrated up in Monterey Beach, Vandenburg down to Ventura and some varieties down to OC (This is all first hand btw). The Salinas River in Los Olivos has what I call Caramel Apple Jasper in the beds, it needs no cooking but, you may want to dig into the walls or down for crack free pieces but, still you can find manageable stuff on the top. The Channel Islands are loaded with Chert, Jasper and agate. Lake Cachuma has both burgundy and ocean blue jasper. There is also red jasper out by Barstow. Check out Mindat.org for some info and there is some books on it too. Gem guide of California or something like that. But, I am mostly familiar with the stuff up in the north counties.
