Im a new member of the paleoplanet commnunty and, therefore, I like to introduce me with a few words :-) Im from Germany and started knapping about 10 month ago in april last year. Since than I couldnt stop knapping anymore. I joined this outstanding forum for many times as a "guest", just looking into the brilliant tutorials and following helpful discussions. Today, I dared to become a new member. I like billeting with hammerstone, copper and antler much more than knapping with ishi sticks...but..alt least I try everyting. My favourite material is German flint from the baltic sea shores. I hope I managed to upload a few pictures from my first so called "knifes" of last year. Thanks ! Silex

The Baltic material looks like some Swedish rock I have worked.......nice but tough. Have you tried cooking it? Also, your English is much better than my German. Tom

Yes, this stone is really haaaaarrrrrd. Never tried to cook it. Maybe this is one reason why I use billeting as long as possible before changing to pressure flaker !? At least you have to resharpen your copper pressure flaker after every pass on one side of the biface :-) Changing from baltic ( in priniple same as swedish flint) to , for example, black obsidian, it feels like knapping a piece of butter :-)) In Germany the number of Flintknappers is not very big, indeed it is probly rather small. regards ! I particularly like the concept behind the survival knife holding emergency supplies. I did one like this some years ago but with a bamboo handle (more interior space) but I like yours much better. Posts: 16 Jan 13 12 10:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Good morning everibody (..its 07:00 in the morning here in germany) :-) I just checked the forum an some more encouraging words on my first few knifes. Thanks for your comments especially about my "Paleo survival knife" (last two pictures). Its just a cowbone from the leg with no further modifications / drilling etc. Next step will be a slightly bigger bone with a bigger hole to add also "Paleo Fire" by inserting a markasit stone and tinder and also "Orientation" by adding a starmap ("Northstar") by scrimshaw on the bonehandle. :-)) Best regards ! henning
