Yeah It's easy to do with files LOL. I am making another one but it is a whole lot BIGGER. It's over a 1/4 thick and will have a 9"
blade.<><

The hammer marks and the brown on the elk antlers really add some character. I love it.

That's pretty nice, and you even included a choil to help with close-up work. Well done! RC
ps have you tried soaking the Elk ivory in a thinned solution of linseed oil? 30 min., wipe it off - wet sand it if you want, prior, that helps bigtime - let it sit for a couple of months while you move on to other projects, and then check the patina on the stag. I also use pine tar in my mix, which adds a golden component to the brown of the oil. I buy it from a baseball supply place on the web, Spaulding Pine Tar.

That Bowie looks awesome skibo, nice pic under the skull. I hope you don't mind if I use that for inspiration when I get around to my next knife.

Thanks Guys. ya know I have had some people buy a knife from me and love it. Then had a couple say the finish is not top notch. When I try and explain to them
that my knives are made to look rough(I like that look) I do not want a knife to look perfect. Now I am in no way knocking high end knife makers. They are pure
artists at what they do. But my style knife is just what it is. I have no [problem using my knives. If the blade gets scratched up it's no biggie. I do
have high end knives but do not use them. They are just way to nice to use. Am I the only one that thinks like this? I just find something spl about a knife
with some grind marks here and there and that awesome forged look. Maybe I am just weird?<><

I tend to try to make "scratch free" knives that are pretty schmancy, but to each their own. One of the things that makes me sad is when someone buys
a "using" knife from me, and is afraid to use it and scratch it up. I think the folks who buy a rustic knife then crab about the finish obviously
missed the point.
One of my favorite pics is from a buddy of mine who got a damascus/1095 san mai hunter with desert ironwood handle from me. It's him sitting in the bed of his old beat to hell pickup with a "meat" deer, proudly holding the knife in front of the little buck. It's a "fancy" knife, but one that will be used well, show signs of use, and be a better knife for the scratches and discolorations.

Man, those all look great...nice proportions, and personally I like the hand-hammered, slightly 'raw' finish...I finish mine up the same way (if a
blade is too shiny, it makes me worried to scratch it. If I leave a few scratches in to start with, then I don't worry...

Very well done!
I also like the hammered finish look. |
