It is a tradition already
to start this thread with a map and I'm very happy to enlarge the size of the map each year, adding a new continent
The people:
Tim (Manukabow) came from New Zealand; Paul (Stringkeeper) came from Nova Scotia, Canada; Ken (Toxophileken) and Barbara (barbie) came from California; Eric (Eric Methven) and Mark (Mark from England) came from UK; Juri and Kati and Anis came from Finland; Jorik (DarkSoul) came from the Netherlands; Andrei (Andrew beeing Archer) and Andreea and Florin (Chimistul) and Claudia came from Romania and Michael (Michael Bootz) came from Germany. We enjoyed the company of our Bulgarian friends Gancho, Tsetso and Vida, Stojan and Viki, Toni and Zori. And the usual suspects - Kosio (tqpotia) and Galunka, Vlad and Iliana (123Sharo).
The place:
I got up early in the mornings, enjoyed the bird's singing, walked bare food on the dewy grass and I thought - I have to capture this moment in a chill-out video
In the first days we went to Gabrovo, the nearby town and bought leather directly from the factory. The owner of the factory came to see us, maybe attracted from Eric's professional view and we received the leather at a very good price
We were eager to start everything at once.
Michael prepared the quills for coloring.
First washed them from the grease:
And then colored them (this is only a brief overview on the process, we will make a special tutorial later
)
You can see here how the oxygen worked on the chemical and colored the cloth from green to blue. Same happens with the quills, you have to expose them for a while on the air and they become blue. Michael is a chemist and he will explain the process more clear in his tutorial:
The quills had to dry after that and we could work with them at the next day.
Meanwhile Vida and Kati started beading:
Vida is an experienced and very skillful bead worker. Kati took photos on her pouches and showed them in Juri's thread. This one here she finished and donated for the next year's raffle. Thank you so much, Vida!
The finished pouch:
Kati's project (can't wait to see how it goes
)
And Eric prepared his tools and materials for the leather workshop in the kitchen:
Eric worked very hard and made 17 belts for each one of us. We just had to make 3 stitches and attach the buckle to the lace. He made several pouches as well - we exercised the fancy braid (knotwork? )he showed us.
He prepared several protectors for the hand, which allow to push the needle more convenient:
And he showed us how to finish them: (more detailed tutorial to follow)
He explained tireless all we wanted to know:
(edited spelling and added more photos)
