The Bald Eagle vendors had some nice rock this year at the knap-in. I have wanted to try the famous Normanskill Chert from my home state of New York for a few
years. New York Chert has always had it in chunks that were too large for me to handle, but this year he had spalls and bulk rock. I got a half a dozen pound
size spalls and one bulk chunk weighing 17.5 lbs. His prices were great, the bulk was $1.50/lb and the spalls were $2.50/lb. The Normanskill works similar to
the Onondaga from Southern Ontario, it is very strong, jet black, waxy in appearance and I can get large thinning flakes with a large soft copper bopper and a
little abrasion. Pressure flaking it is a little different and it takes power with an Ishi, but it flakes.. Here is a 2 and 3/4 inch point from my second try
on this rock that is new to me. Also check out the small Bobcat Jaw Knife with a neck sheath I got from a knapper at Bald Eagle too.
