Im just wondering what you guys do. When I had a compound I used a tab, I think it was called. I knew a guy who used a release w/ a trigger. Not for me.

Personally, I use a thumbring, since I use the Mongolian Release now. But, I only used a tab before. Minimalism is my watchword. YMMV.

I've tried a bunch of tabs and gloves, but have really stuck with Grizzly's heavy deerskin glove for years. I wear through the fingertips on one or
two a year, but I shoot best and most comfortably for those. I've come to the conclusion that I just don't like tabs at all.
I'm really picky on the fit, though. I always wait until I go to a rendezvous where vendors may have stacks of gloves laid out on a table. I may try on 20, 30, 40...all they have in my size and buy up the 3 or 4 that fit me really well. I like the fingers to fit snug, but not tight, and the bottom of the stalls to stop well short of the web between my fingers. I like the overall length to be such that the glove can't slide forward, since I want the glove to fit tight against my fingertips. Nothing is more irritating than having to jam a glove's fingers tightly onto your own between shots. No gloves in a given size range are made equal. IMO, the fit of a glove can literally make or break what you think of it. |

I started out shooting split finger with a tab, then I learned in my first archery lesson about three finger under and really liked that more than split
finger. I shot three finger under with a tab for quite a while before trying a three finger glove. I like the glove a LOT better than the tab. I find I shoot
faster and I'm more dexterous with the glove. Now, if I could just find a glove that fits my long fingers. However, I have some pigskin and other leather
scraps to make my own shooting glove. Look for it in the bows and quivers section in a few weeks along with some other cool archery kit I'll be making.
I've never tried bare finger shooting. I build up enough mild discomfort after shooting for an hour and a half with a glove to not want to shoot bare
fingers. However I must also mention the caveat that I've only been shooting since February. I'm very new to archery.

Just a wee opinion here...I will relate to my own experience here in that I've shot and made bows for 58 years (with a 6 year hiatus in the Army in
between) and have used finger protection roughly 6 months during that time. Believe me, I've tried just about everything that I thought would not interfere
with my release or accuracy and found that "nothing" is best for me. I strongly believe that you should use what is most confortable to you while not
negatively affecting your release or accuracy. This is only accomplished with practice, practice, practice. And now, a warning....if you choose to shoot
without an aid protecting your fingers there will be consequences such as blisters on the fingertips and moaning and groaning...etc. However, there is a light
at the end of the tunnel and you should be confident that it will all come together and remember that sometimes "less" is "more". PS I
shoot regularly with a 50 lb @28 inch draw selfbow and am still quite accurate (just ask Ken "Toxophileken") Gary

I shoot bare fingered a lot to keep my fingers hard, with a three fingered deerskin glove in the woods,
and I currently have two types of tab, one of which I prefer for formal target shooting. I chose the implement according to the task, or not. Rod. |
