i glued up this 70" ntn hickory/walnut/ipe trilam a couple weeks ago, but had some other projects in front of on the priority list, so i just got back to it. i guess i made a mistake by not tillering the core first. i'm thinkin a little work then would have saved alot of scraping today. this thing clings to its reflex (3") like no other bow i've built. anyways, got it tillered to 23"- looks good to me so far, but as always- i welcome your advice!
freshly unstrung after being braced for 6 hours,
my helper- "Evil Stinky Pants"- helping me with some alleged tip alignment issues...
i also got my maple/cherry tillered to 20". it's feeling a little strong- i'm not sure if i should ask cherry to go 70#, so i'm taking this
one pretty slow from here. i plan to exercise the limbs alot in between tiller adjustments. again, it looks good to me- it's a completely different tiller
shape from the trilam, though. this one is a 65" ntn pyramid- 1 7/8" x 5/8" at fades tapering to 1/2" nocks, with a good 8" of
nonbending handle. after unstringing, it still shows 1 1/2" of reflex & it gets the other 1/2" back after an hour or so, so i don't think the
wood's being overly stressed yet.
braced- i sure wish my camera would show just how pretty this wood is!
12"
20"
feels good to get a few on the tree!
cheers,
Rob
ps- Nick & Bruno, i gotta get these & the 80" maple/walnut elb done before i can get much done on the crazier stuff- my work space is getting
cluttered....
