John, there may be a better way than I suggest here but what I used to do was run them through my bandsaw using a tpering jig, which was just a piece of angle
iron with a screw on one end that I could move a flat piece of metal in and out with. I also use to use masking tape just staggered in either 1/2" or
1" increments to build up a atper depending on the taper I wanted then use two sided tape to attach my piece to it with. From that point I had a bar built
over my belt sander that I could adjust the level on then just feed it under the bar over my sander. Steve

I use a jig like this. This is a permanent .001" jig, but you can easy make one adjustable. I use a vacuumcleaner, and the laminates will not move when
you use your router. I even sand the laminates with my router. Perfect laminates every time...and cheap.

ihmsa I like the look of the jig for use with the router Im just having trouble working out how you work it!!The bigger hole on end is for the hoover I
think, the smaller counter sunk holes keep the lam in place when hoover is on?then you run the router over the top of the frame back and forward till you have
covered all of it?Is that it?Dont suppose you have any pics of it in action do you?or do you turn it upside down and router on the router table??Sorry to be a
pain !!Ithink I could make that jig though, looks like the way to go for me.badger yours sounds do able as well dont suppose you have any pics of your jig too.
thanks for your help john |

ihmsa, your jig looks very good. however, I wonder how you keep the lams from moving, and how you keep the router/sander from trimming off the edges of the
jig.
thanks in advance, Nick |

mox1968. Thats right:)
Dutchwarbow: The small hole give a vaacum with a vaacumcleaner. The laminates is not move at all. And i use my hands to guide the router over the jig. Maybe the rails could be more solid. 1-2" or so. |

Do you have some trouble with cutting rail when do this, or its not problem?
Very smart idea indeed! |

Its not a problem. But I dont think about the rails when I made the jig. I use a big sanding machine for my laminates, so the jig was only a testproject.
But if you go to make a jig. I recomend you to use 18mm MDF for rails, 1 1/2" wide, and put a pair of tapered laminate under. Then you have tapering on your next lams. Sorry if my English is hard to understand |

I have one just like that in many ways, but...
The table in the middle where the lam rests is adjustable to tilt a little one way or the other and the side boards have a transverse bolt to squeeze it once adjusted. Then instead of a router, I put wheels on my power hand planer and the two outside board edges become rails for the wheels to ride along. By tipping the middle table one way or the other you can get tapered lams or straight. |
