How can I build a cut off saw/wheel? My apolgys for going O:T: |

I know a cut off saw is hardly Paleo. I have tons of broken/bent aluminum arrows. I have saved them to make roving arrows for kids. If all I had to cut were a
few dozen,I might use a hacksaw. The size of the project calls for a bit of mechanical help. So,how can I build a saw using easily found inexpensive materials?

There have been some threads regarding this on TradGang. When I get home tonight I'll wander through the archives there and see if I can find the
information. If I remember correctly it involved an inexpensive cut off saw normally found at Harbor Freight.

I have a cool battery powerd cutting dremel I intend to use for cutting nocks and such. Guy had mentioned they have little fiber laced cutting wheels for them
and I'm sure you can find one that will work for metal. may take a second or two for each shaft but way better than cuttin with a hack saw. if you think
about it you could most likely build a small jig that lowers the cutting wheel onto the shaft. would be a cool set up I think and it shouldn't be to much
$.

Thanks Guy.
I would not mention nonPrimitive arrows here except it is used to get children out there shooting. I get them out there and then slowly show them how to make their own gear. Harbor freight is going to be a last resort. I am not set up for any kind of online or telephone purchases. Ideas are always welcome though. The nuggets of info can sometimes be cobbled together into a working model. Kevin |

Well, with that in mind I don't think the thread on TradGang is going to be of any help.
If you have a Dremel then Mario's idea would be best. If not, then I'd suggest an inexpensive tubing cutter. A tubing cutter would be slow but it is accurate, inexpensive, and easy to use. Just limit it to aluminum shafts, don't try carbon. Guy |

Before I had a cut off saw, I used a right angle grinder with a cut off wheel of the same type that a cut off saw uses, to great success. My arrows didn't
know the difference. The only difference is that my cut off saw came with a sort of jig to hold the arrows in place and cut them all to the same length.
I still use the same tool to cut metal with - for example, to cut out my scrapers from old saw blades. Ken |

You can use a small tubing cutter. Non-electric and any home-cheapo or other big box stores will have one for a few bucks.
