Most web sites say yes, that both the mesocarp and the nut meats of the queen palm are edible to the human being, but the dealer at the local nursery doubted this. I'm used to eating sable palm and palmetto cabbage, but I know from experience that fruits of royal palm are unpleasant to the skin to process. The squirrels eat the queen palm mesocarp, but the seed is too hard to chew through. As there are no dead squirrels en masse about the trunks of my trees, or anywhere for that matter, I am apt to assume that at the least the fruits are edible. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I have so much of them, and they smell sooooo sweeeet! It would be a shame if I could eat them and didn't!
