Now that is amazing stuff. Not only are those guys excellent archers but they obviously have a solid command of their mounts as well. Very impressive. Danny

Wonderful video. Must make Hungarians very proud to see their ancient culture revived.

Take a look here, this is the place where we made our First Euromeet in
2007 (you can see some photos in the gallery). Our friend Vlado is Kassai's representative for Bulgaria.

I am a member of the Kassai USA group and participate in the Kassai horseback archery events in the US and Canada. This is a very exciting, challenging, and
extremely instinctive form of archery. Modern technology, sights, and a fixed anchor point just don't work when shooting a bow from a galloping horse.
That is perfect, because I have no desire to shoot a modern compound bow. I was able to go to Hungary in March and spent some time in Kassai's valley. I
was able to see the Kassai Open Days public demonstration on Saturday, April 4. It was an absolutely incredible demonstration of horsemanship and horseback
archery. Lajos Kassai and his students are extremely dedicated, disciplined, and work really hard to improve their skills. Their hard work really shows
when you see them ride and shoot. Kassai makes a variety of modern replicas of the ancient horsebows. His horse bows are very smooth shooting and
beautifully crafted. We have a small group of dedicated horseback archers in the US, but are slowly increasing in numbers.
PS: I just finished a reasonable selfbow this weekend; 69" inch, 56 lb pull, pin nocks, 1 1/2 width, Hickory - which I cut and dried, hand tools only. Shot about 50 arrows yesterday. Allen |

Hey Allen, welcome to the Planet!
Yes, I can understand your passion, though I don't ride myself. But I read Kassai's book few years ago and Vlado (Kassai's representative for Bulgaria) is our good acquaintance. I know how dedicated he is and I have listened many stories and seen many videos about the events at Kassai's valley. I admire this incredible skill!!! Maybe you will take few photos and post about your bow in the Primitive Archery Forum. You will like this forum, moreover you mentioned you have no desire to shoot a wheel bow Nice to have you with us! Iliana |

I forgot to mention: If you do a Google search for Kassai horseback archery you will get more info and videos. Also, on the YouTube site, if you do a search
for horseback archery or mounted archery you will find many different horseback archery videos from Kassai and others.
Hi Iliana! I don't have any photos yet of my new bow and do not know how to post photos on this forum yet. However, there is nothing fancy about my recent bow. There are no laminations or any fancy tip overlays or anything glued to it. It is just a primitive selfbow, that I whittled out of a tree. I wrapped the handle with buckskin. No arrow shelf, as I shoot off my fist. I also have a couple others in construction. I have been making primitive bows occasionally for about 16 years, making arrows for about 40 years, and flintknapping stone points for about 6 years. However, horseback archery is what I spend most of my spare time on. Allen |
