just joined this terribly wonderful site. everything i need in a primitive how-to site indeed. can anyone tell me how to tan a coon skin the old way? like how to do the inside of the face,scraping/softening etc. anything special i gotta do to preserve the nose or does it turn to nose jerky? i'm gonna use eggs in warm water for the tanning solution. or maybe olive oil and liquid ivory soap would be better? you tell me. i plan on pulling it over a laurel branch which seems to be rough enough to do the job for final softening. and then smoke it, of course. any info will be greatly appreciated. i've got two skins in the freezer. itching to tan'em. thanks fellers.
