I am going to do this in 4 parts to help the dialup members.
First thank you for the kind comments.
I was interested the first time I saw a branch flute for sale on ebay. I started making them then was lucky enough to meet John and Amos of Fallen Branch Flutes at the Talequah OK Flute Circle. These 2 men make some amazing flutes and are very nice people to boot.
I have no power tools. This is my flute making kit.
You have to avoid branches with a split that has already started because you can not get the split to go back together. In this case you could cut the branch behind the split and make it work.
Here is a piece that split bad and the repair. Just clamp and glue then its ready.
After the repair.
Started the split with a thin bladed knife then used a wood wedge to finish it. This flute is smaller than the others. It is only 12.5 inches long.
This is the layout. The Xs are to be carved out.
Starting carving with the small gouge .25 inch (inside the lines I hope)
The end as starting to take shape.
