making me a set of mocs. i want something simple yet something like a short boot.so decided on side seam with a upper attached. but first gots to have some good leather... sooo... been working on a pretty thick buck skin. this hide came from a huge buck. i already made a rawhide quiver, and a strap and a few bow strings from the neck /shoulders area and its still bigger than most deer hides ive tanned with all that removed.id say whats left is between 3 and 4 oz. as for thickness. so it will make some awesomely strong mocs. i soaked this hide in leaf/bark tannin i made last year for a week or so. then i mixed a little of that tannin in with some brains and after stretching and smoking i coated it with that and let it set a few days then freezed it.till i could get back to it. so since then ive been stretching it then freezing it, stretching it freezing so on and so forth little by little its stretched pretty good and almost dry.all by hand, didnt use a stretcher on this. its back in the freezer till tomorrow at which time im realy going to work it hard. then smoke it real good, then when im sure its done done. im going to start my mocs. plenty there to make a set of med. high side seam boot mocs. ill post some pics. if i have enough left i might even make a secondary set of soles to sew on around the bottom of the side seam bottoms . i dont know why this couldnt be done once already made. a double sole makes for long lasting foot wear.but if theres not enough it is something i could do later.
