i enjoy making replica bows , i like shooting them, hunting with them, ect. as of late ive been making a few self and backed bows styled like plains bows. double bend being my favorite of late. mostly white ash, sometimes if i can find a decent piece osage. right now im working on a 47 inch double bend white ash bow i plan on making into a lance bow. with all the feather decorations and everything like some photos of old ones ive seen. i want to make it a shooter first. then ad the blade at the end decorate it and probley itll sit on a wall till im old and senile . this stave is 1 1/8 inch wide, 47 1/2 in long and just over 1 inch thick at the handle . it came from a weathered log/tree that spent a winter under water and ice.anyway, 2 days ago i steamed it at the handle and placed it over a branch under the back of the handle/grip area and bent it and used a board over the end of each limb to screw it down to my deck outside. call it a "form" lol. little by little im going to resteam, rebend, and im trying to get a nice reverse bend at the handle area for this project.until im satisfied with it. ill getr some pics of where im at with it at present and keep posting until its finnished....or broke. which ever comes first. i dont plan on cutting in a nock to place the blade into at the end. instead i plan on placeing the blade on the belly and wrapping with sinew or rawhide and affixing it that way. maybe ill have to make some kind of notch in the belly.im not sure yet till i get to that point.i searched but havent seen a post on one. so i figgured i do one. just for fun. and a nice piece of wall art.
