My 2017 shed string. Shall we go, while we can?
I am going to guess that aboriginal americans were avid shed antler hunters in season. Some of the eastern woodland sites have been excavated and found to be lacking in the stone triangles diagnostic of the period. At these same sites antlers have been found that have had the tines sawn off. Researchers speculate that these were the basis for antler projectile points, although none have been found.
Come along to Green Hill in Rockbridge County, Va. A lot of rough ground, most of which never sees a human footfall. The bucks can get old here. But where to find an antler in 10,000 acres? A good problem to have, as we say. If you walk ten miles a day, eventually good things happen to you.
23" main beams, 4 x 5, 2015-16 bones, one tiny nibble. Good clean bone.
More to come. PD
