Yesterday ...I got home from a doctors appointment to find a box in my mail box ...from California....something I'd been told would be in the mail soon . Eric ..Knifesmith had very generously volunteered to make me a couple of pro quality dry scraper blades ( just so I could try them out ) ...as well a a Japanese Kitchen knife ....someone on here ....had paid him... to make for me anonymously .
To who ever did that generous deed ..Thank you so much .
I so wanted one of Eric's kitchen knives ...but just did not have the extra bucks to spend for something like that ...since going to doctors appointments ..has cost me so much of my limited income, and ....in the past year and I've not been able to work .
Well the box came.....and after I got the cardboard box off it... ..I could tell by the craftsmanship ....of the wooden box he'd made to hold the knife and 2 dry scraper blades...I was in for a pleasant surprise. The box itself was a work of art ...decorated by his little daughter with all kinds of neat stickers but the wood box itself... wow .... counter sunk holes for the screws ...wood blocks inside to keep the blades stationery ..and blocks and pins glued into place to keep the knife ...from moving against anything at all and his hand made grease coating the blades.
I knew I was dealing with a exemplary craftsman. a One of a kind guy . But wow!~! this exceeded going the extra mile.
Once I got the paper off everything I was not to be disappointed . So here are several pictures of the items . I am looking forward soon to get started on working on a couple of handles for the blades ...I've been saving back some caribou antler ....for at least one of them if not both but may do one with Osage Orange ...which I have as well.
the knife looks like its going to be very handy for cutting up meat and vegetables for stir fry and other kitchen chores.I really like the dropped blade to allow for your fingers to clear the cutting board. I think this is going to be my go to knife in the ktchen for many chores in canning as well .
the darker blade has this neat hamon effect that looks like ..flames or something similar.
Am very excited about using the knife and getting handles made for the blades...they are the nicest scraper blades I've ever seen . and if they work as well as I think they are going to ....wow. I will keep ya all posted ....got a couple of deer hides ....so will have to get them mounted in a frame to try them out . Stri fry soon to ...my favorite food . Thank you again Knifesmith ..and whom ever else ...involved !~! Quills
