I hope you had a great weekend. I am getting started on a seven-holed bansuri and wanted to check the tuning with those of you in the know. As far as I can tell, Bansuri tuning is based on the Kalyan (Lydian) scale: C4(Sa) - D(Re) - E(Ga) - F#(Ma^) - G(Pa) - A(Dha) - B(Ni) - C5(Sa). In this order, the fundamental would be tuned to C4, the seventh hole D, all the way up to the first hole, C5.
I am basing this primarily on an interactive Bansuri fingering chart I saw here: http://www.anubodh.com/Fingering%20full/Inter_bansuri_fing_chart.html (the fingering chart has the fundamental in F#, which is how I will be tuning my flute).
Is this your guys' understanding as well? And would the six-holed bansuri just eliminate the high Sa (so the player would overblow into the second octave in order to hit that note?)
Interested in what you think....
