Posts: 172 (11/01/10 8:23 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Remove this ad If ever in the Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Branson, Missouri or Table Rock Lake area check out the Golden Pioneer Museum in Golden, Missouri. It's a private museum and the admission is free. They have a vast assortment of collections, among them are MANY, MANY points, blades, etc. I found the last one in particular interesting. I have an idea who made that one. Anyone want to venture a guess? Rip

Posts: 610 (11/02/10 5:28 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have been there too. It is astounding what they have in that museum. It is WELL worth the short drive up there (about 15 mi N of Eureka). They have some very valuable and rare points. It won't be there forever, so I agree - GO!

It has one of the finest Dalton collections you will ever see and it has a bunch of Jakie site stuff. Winford spent many years collecting this stuff and yes there is a large modern collection also. Posts: 611 (11/02/10 7:53 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I didn't mean to imply that all of the artifacts were ancient, but like I said, there are some rare and valuable things there along with lesser items. I did note those Dalton points. I think most all of the older mounted stuff that spells out words on a plywood back are genuine. There is a board that says "Dalton," all in Dalton points for example. They weren't all perfect, but some were very nice and you'd pay a pretty peny for one these days. I was impressed that when I left, right by the exit was a Navajo Two Gray Hills rug, just slung over a rail. I don't think it was a fake either. As for the celts and such....who knows? The drills said modern knapper to me, but they are still worth seeing, all of them. The museum also has minerals, fossils, china, glass and other oddities and collector's items. It's a pretty big place - maybe 8,000 to 9,000 sq. ft.?

But that last picture makes every last one of the pieces a "Gray Ghost" ... that being said , I'd still like to see the place . Rich

I know that Roger Colby lives in Osceola and he is the first person I thought of when I first saw that piece. The Dalton boards are impressive. Debbie's picture of those didn't turn out. They really do have a bunch of neat collections there and something of interest to most anyone.

I have always loved Winfords Museum because it was were I learned a lot about old stuff and new stuff and learned to tell the difference. It's a true challenge. I think it's great to have a large collection of lithic art old and new. Mr. Prier is the owner if the museum. It's S of Tablerock Lake and just a few miles NE of Eureka Springs Arkansas. The town if Golden is N of 86 on Hwy J. Just Google "Golden Missouri Pioneer Museum" for a map.

I have several pieces in the museum. There is a 10 inch Texas Tang knife in there too. I also own a few of the display artifacts. Winford and I made friends when I was in the tire business years ago and my place on Table Rock Lake is about a mile and a half from there. You know. Where the kilns were. The Jakie shelter site is just down the road about two miles or so as the crow flies. I used to love getting Winford to talk about it. He was there during the hurried salvage of it when they put the lake in....I have hunted it for years now and always find stuff. Back then they took everything and there was a lot of grave sites there that were very interesting. There is a little about it on the net.
