I think the buff might have carried this around for a while since originally it looked like the bone had tried to grow around the flint point. I am not sure what type of stone it is since there is lots of calcium and patina. It measures 1/2 inch by 5/8 inch but the point is broken off. One of the pictures shows that the point barely made it into the spinal canal.

Posts: 249 (12/19/09 6:40 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remove this ad awesome thread, these finds are great. i've heard of a snapping turtle caught somewhere down south that had a stone point it its inner shell. and also a whale that had a stone point embedded in its blubber. it's amazing to think that these animals were being hunted that long ago, and have just recently been killed.

Posts: 231 (12/19/09 6:58 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	We have a small deer vertabra, in the Cahokia Mounds museum, in which a stone arrowpoint is embedded. The front and back ends of the point were broken off so it's hard to determine what type of point it was. It looks mostly like a Late-Woodland point type. That bison skull with the Andice point in it, is really cool. Kinda shows us that some points, we thought were too wide for projectiles, were actually used that way. There is also a long blade (about 5 inches), found sticking through a human vertabra, at Indian Knoll (around 4 to 1,000 BC. There's another one pictured in C. B. Moore's book on Indian Knoll). These types of discoveries tend to make is rethink our ideas about stone tool use. Good!! Larry

The foreman went in his office and came out with 2 points that were found in turkey gizzards. I still have them. One is whole, the other is just the point half. Very smooth............Pretty cool. They are packed away but I might dig them out and photo. Tom

The point had a lot of steps in it and I could help but think everyone in the tribe/nation was try to figure out how to duplicate that point cause it sure put a lot of meat on the blanket and that after all was the original purpose of knapping. The point was angled up, as if the victim was laying down and shot from a man standing behind but near him, as per the History Channel I believe.
