Most bone fishhooks I've seen were carved/ground to shape instead of bent. Deer knuckle/toe bones are a good shape to make them from, just make a hole in
the center and keep working it until it's a hook. You can also make strait bone gorges, much less work than a hook and probably work nearly as well.

i've never tried to bend bone into hooks, only carved it, although i have heard that the Inuit used to use a flexible piece of bone bent into a U with meat
wrapped around it to kill bears.

You can bend very thin pieces of bone (Chicken ribs, slivers of other bone) by soaking in vinegar for a few days. Then bend 'em, bind 'em and dry
'em. Fresh is better than cooked.

Looks like we're (almost) neighbors. 'Bout 150 - 200 miles. I live in Poteau, OK, about 25 miles SSW of Ft. Smith.

I'm tied up this weekend. Not much doin' around in the heat. There's a knap-in at Chimney Rock Hollow (see Upcoming Events) in Aug I'm planning
on making.
