Bo Brown first earth wilderness school? |
Lead | |

I was wondering if any one knew who Bo Brown is or if his wilderness school is good? He has a school down by Springfield here in Missouri and I was also
wanting to know what you do? Any info would be appreciated.

Bo is one of my more interesting friends. I have been associated with him, Don Brink and First Earth (formerly Red Willow) since 1998. I will recommend
him and his classes. He owns some acreage right in the middle of 1100 acres of Missouri Conservation land, on the Niangua River in Lead mine Conservation
Area. He does classes periodically throughout the year, but the big event each year is the Bois D'Arc Primitive Skills Rendezvous (September) now
located at Historic Hulston Mill near Greenfield, Mo. A really nice place, perfect for this event.
Hi Folks, Due to work conflicts, I need to re-arrange the schedule a bit. The June 13 Advanced Skills Class will be moved to Oct. 31- Nov 2, and the Fall Basic Skills Class will be held Oct. 17-19. The scheduled Oct. 24-26 Braintan Buckskin Hide Tanning class is cancelled at this point, will possibly be re-scheduled if there are more requests for it. The website has been updated to reflect changes. Thanks to all that participated in the spring workshops, the May 16th Basic Skills Class was the largest one so far. Also, don't forget to mark your calendar for the Bois D' Arc Skills Camp & Knap-In at Hulston Mill on Sept. 25-27, this event just keeps getting bigger and better! Thanks, hope to see you at one of our events, Bo

Incidentally,
If you are interested in this kind of stuff...please check out MoJam. The largest bow-building event in the US, I think. Located in Marshall, Missouri 3rd weekend of July every year, it's Wed-Thur-Fri-Sat-Sun of building stickbows, arrows, flintknapping, drum circle, Saturday potluck dinner, demonstrations, classes (all free) and lots of kid stuff. Great family fun. Here's a link:http://www.marshallbowhun...lbowhunters/bowyers.html This is THE one event of the year I never want to miss! If you are anywhere near Springfield, my buddy and I sometimes put on a bow-building weekend. We go from a stave on Saturday morning to a shootable bow by Sunday afternoon using bandsaws, power tools, rasps, drawknives, scrapers, etc. PM me if interested, we can arrange something. I also teach and demonstrate some primitive skills, but I never charge for it. Mostly bow & arrow making, primitive pottery, hide tanning, limited flintknapping, other stuff as needed. |

I've known Bo for 5 or 6 years and can't recommend him highly enough! I met him at Wintercount and Rabbit Stick and was really impressed I have almost
all of his CDs and play them over and over. The only reason I haven't attended Bois-D-Arc is I demonstrate at Angel Mounds, in Evansville, IN. on that
weekend. I've been doing that program for the last 10 years and hate to miss it. I hate to miss out on Bois-D-Arc too.
Bo's another great abo teacher with an amazing musical talent, to boot. Larry |

Hey Larry this is Zach well now I definitely know he is good if its coming from you. Jim and I were got a brochure and were thinking about taking his class or
going to Bois-D-Arc and all of the good things being said just reaffirms it now.
