from what i understand you take water and sprinkle it on the flute, or gourd,or whatever, so that it beads up. then take a torch and basically scorch the
piece. the water insulates the work from the flame and gives you the speckled look. ive never done it myself, but ive seen how it is done.
Andrew (Mastershandflutes) does this on some of his flutes, but if i remember right, he's in florida right now. not sure when he'll be back... Phil Walk softly and carry a loud stick... |

Phil you are correct,
i just got home but i got attacked by a pretty big wild hog os i'm beat up pretty bad. i've got broken ribs, torn shoulder tendons, and a 6" long, by 2" wide, by 3.5" deep laceration on the back on my right calf. praise God no rabis though!!!!! just pray for quick healing! the starry night fire treatment is done jsut as Phil said. it only works on baige colored bamboo. so black, and brown bamboo is out. get cold water, sprinkle it on there in small sections then with a gas powered torch burn the bmaboo enamle, without scorching the actualy wood of the bamboo. hope this helps, when my leg gets back to normal, i will do a tutorial! I hope you heal up fast Andrew. Sorry to hear that you were attacked, but glad to hear that it wasn't worse.
