Harpoon blade |

Here, I appeal to the inventive and creative among you. I've long been fascinated with the fact that men would, in the midde of distant oceans, throw a
harpoon into the backs of the largest creatures on the planet, whales, while riding in a flimsy, cedar planked boat. Many years ago I made a bunch of small
harpoons to amuse myself, but it seems that I'm at it again - that I'm rereading Moby Dick for the third or fourth time may have more to do with it
than imagination. So, I spent an evening making a harpoon point with a tang - not how harpoons were made. It's made from 3/16" 1095, and the tip
meas. 2 3/4" x 1 3/8", with an oal of 5 1/2". I've already rejected ideas of a push dagger, or handling it as a typical knife; war clubs
are not for me either. I'm open to even the most outrageous ideas, providing I can pull it off - any thoughts? thanks, RC

Ever seen some of the more, let's say.. "interesting" japanese arrows? 2 3/4"x 1 3/8" isn't small, but I've seen larger and
more ridiculous arrowheads.

Nope, haven't seen any arrowheads like you mentioned. I may just end up making a spear from the thing, which is about as practical as some of the knives
I've built, like my 18" Damascus Bowie; everyone needs one of those in case of zombie attacks, never know. RC

Dude, don't listen to us, listen to the metal, didn't it tell you it wants to be a harpoon? So make a little harpoon!:^)

That looks like a war arrow waiting for a shaft. I can make it for you, the feathered shaft I mean.

Make another one and create a set of spurs for kick fighting.
Either that or make a spear. Jamie |

Using a leuku, I took down a wild dogwood sapling 1" in dia. I have a 5' section. I'll allow it to air dry, and then I'll do my best to make a
spear. I'll post it sometime in the future. Thanks, RC

Make a walking stick and mount it in the top. make a cool little cover/sheath for it to protect yourself. Could come in handy on a hike through the woods or in
the mnts. Nice work

A dual purpose spear? fine idea; I've got the length of the staff to make it work, and to cap the bottom. Thanks Keller, RC

Will do. I need to let the wood dry, although dogwood is pretty stable, and hard as hell. RC
