Posts: 25 (04/27/09 3:02 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None folks, i will hopefully be getting in the next couple weeks-little rocks made into a popular jewelry by natives,,,,--these rocks come from a fish called "drum"--right behind the eyes-specific spot---very neat!! but if anyone here has any of these rocks,,,or the ivory elk teeth{no cow please!}--i would like to work out a trade----SEE MY PROFILE TO SEE PICS OF THINGS I HAVE FOR SALE/TRADE--I HAVE WELL OVER 30 ITEMS-HANDCRAFTED !! ALSO--i have a hand knapped native replica style---corner tang knife,,,made from really nice heat-treated kay county chert!!---on one side a complete,,fossil fish in perfect detail,,other neat natural colors/markings---very sharp--is blade only style that has a artificial sinew handle==wear as neck nife,,etc....---YOU CAN SEE IT IN A FEW OF MY PICS--IN MY PROFILE.thanks rob

Posts: 10 (04/27/09 6:24 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i know what fish your talking about thier silver tall long and real thin. caught a bunch of them when i went walleye spearing had like 11 of em tossed them all always thought they were junk theres a lot in lake ontario bay of quinte. never heared of anyone on the rez using them for drums.

Posts: 27 (04/28/09 1:59 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	mohawkwoodman., hi,thank you for your reply..ithink mabey i either typed the words in wrong order where it might not be easy to tell what it is that i mean,,,sorry folks for the confusion! what i was trying to write was=--there are fish{im sure all over}-here in the ninnescah river in south central kansas,,called drum,,these drum,,people nowadays,,just tossem like carp,,but from what i can gather ,,certain native tribes would catch this drum fish,,and --just back behind the eyes--would dig out the little rocks,,that naturally form in cavity on the side of their skull,, well when they dug these"rocks" out--they would either trade them for items that were'nt found in their area,,or make jewelry out of them.. these drum ,are kinda oblong shape if viewed from the side,but to me the most distinguishing feature ,,for some reason,,are their scales--the individual scales cover thier boy are large,,very scaley ,,its been many years,,but it may also ne that their scales are attached all the way around,,instead of regular scales that lift up at the ends----could be wrong on that,,,,theres probably some fishermen reading this,,and saying,,""no,no,its this ,,or that!"---either way we would seem to--for some reason ,catch them on the south bank,near,under large rocks,,ofcourse we were hand fishin for catfish,,but would end up with drum,,or buffalo carp!------sorry for the confusion mohawk!----rob

They've found those 'stones' on indian village sites in the area.

Posts: 29 (04/29/09 2:30 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	jcinpc, thank u ,i would like to see some pis of those---even trade for some-- also ur the rock ur holding on ur prof. pic, that thing is awesome--what is it,,knapp good??have any to trade>?? --rob ---eskimo boy,,thanks for the info,,yeah its neat what nature has to offer,,knoweledge is like a key that unlocks the door to a treasure trove of natures goodies!.. i went to trapper creek alaska--what a BLESSING!,,,people from the lower 48 hear all these myths--that quickly get dispensed by alaskans when we get there.. i wish i would have been able to spend time among some of the elders there,,and learn all about the old ways---i have studied it extensively here!--and the aboriginees of austrailia---of the variety of skills i practice and teach--my 2 strongest r fire making--and tracking..--the different methods from around the world have the same basic principles!!---neat--there are exceptions--ie,,fire piston,,and flint and lrge grain pyrite,,,--- well,,if u have pics of ur stuff--i;d love to see them,,,,------------------------I JUST MADE 4- mini bow drill sets yesterday--they fit into the palm of mmy hand--and work well--they can be carried anywhere--- i will post pics ,mabey this weekend of the newer stuff im making--ie..the mini bow drill sets,,and mini hand drills sets,,,mini fishing/hunting sets.. these are great for the minimalists--like me! As for the rock in my hand that is swirly pinhead coral.
