Anywho, I'm wondering of modifying the rather sharp lip of the spigot might change the shape of the stream and those provide a "more pleasing note" to the waterfall. Anyone here ever tuned their fountain?

Very odd question about a water feature |

Not terribly paleo, but what the heck. We have an upright fountain with copper spigot about three feet above the water surface. It's a nice fountain, but
it has one problem: the way the water stream from the spigot hits the pool sounds like a young man peeing. No offense meant, and the older guys here will
especially appreciate the "young man" reference ...

If you can post a pic that might be helpful, Is the opening horizontal or vertical? Vertical would be better
and a bowl that overflows to eliminate the single stream. cheers the fiddling plumber |

You could crimp the opening of the spigot down some, to make the water stream "fan" out. That would help to change the sound of the water hitting the
pool surface.

I would not change the tip so much as to add to it.
It is ever so much easier to take something away than, to add it one you have cut it off or modified it. An inexpensive short length of tubing could be slipped over the original opening. you can then modify this removable length. I do not know if it has been mentioned. Can you add a floating or stationary ornament where the water lands? This could change the tinkling stream into a murmuring cascade. Can you adjust the water pump? Sometimes though not often they are adjustable. There are also add on valve diverters (think of a T in the line.) This would divert some of the water and so lessen the force/direction of the original flow. You can also use this diverted water to spray onto the surface, where the original flow hits. This could soften the sound a bit.

Gang: Here's a shot of the fountain. Hope the spout is clear enough. I think modifying the edge to flatten the "blade" of water would changes the
tone.

If you bend the very end of the pipe up a bit so the stream divides into two, it'll sound like two little boys having a peeing contest. Much less
offensive!
Otherwise, you could install a small plate just under the water at 45 degrees so the water hits it and bounces off (like when you pee in the middle of the night and aim at the side of the bowl so's not to wake anyone up). Eric

If it was me, to change the tone, I would have it come out over a 3 inch flat surface to make more of a waterfall type. The sheet versus the stream will have a
higher tone with greater harmonics due to the shape of the percussive water.
Take a two inch piece of 1.5 ID tube, slit the top of the tube one to one and a half inches on the top and pound it out bflat at the end, then attach with whatever adaptor would mate to your outflow. Just an idea? |

thats pretty much what yer gonna get unless you modify what the water is landing on....lots of ways to go with that.....

Could you add a stone to the basin the protrudes slightly above the water level. That may soften the sound a bit.
BTW the foam on the fountain pic and the pee refernce made me chuckle. You don't know what's in the pickle barrel till ya git the lid off'n it. |
