Tiller was spot-on, and this really surprized me. the boo is holding her together though, maybe she'll even shoot. thinking about making a 1/4" thick, 8" long insert/underlay from massarabunda, glue and glue it in. Maybe, I'll even retiller it to 90# and put a carmelized bamboo bellyslat over it, in order to get that weight back up. (it's braced here) yeah, it's a single crysal, and it's huge. NEVER seen THIS before!! Nick

I had a heavy bow (140+) blow on me just as I came up to full draw many years ago and it cracked three ribs and, for a moment, I thought I'd lost my fingers as well. Anyone who has had broken ribs can testify how inconvenient and painful they are - there is no treatment other than strapping them up where possible and resting them until they heal, usually several weeks later Any bow that breaks on you can be dangerous, but the heavier the weight the greater the likelihood of serious injury if your bow fails. With the weights you are playing with I'd bin anything that so much as twitched in the wrong direction and start afresh. I'd be concerned about the integrity of the wood that is still holding under that fault. I imagine you could make another in the same or less time that it would take to rework this one... EDIT I meant to add that I sometimes bin a bow even if it has a serious hinge the first time I brace it. Any serious abnormality usually massively overstresses the problem area and I would usually rather not take any chances. Perhaps OK with wider bows, but it's high mass could be a problem then. I made some failry heavy warbows with it up to 125lbs and they all seem to be shooting still but with much more set than with Ipe. I think you may win the prize for the biggest ever single chrysal! We did not notice this chrysal during our shooting, right? So, why did it appear suddenly after 50+ shots? Where is it located? Midlimb? From your pictures, it already looks as if the bow starts hinging at the chrysal. I would yank it on the tiller tree, with a 20 feet rope on it. Film the event! Pull it to 28" a dozen times, and work your way up, up to......well, you know.... (My ipé is a blast to work with. High density, but planes like a dream. I stick to ipé for now!) I really have no idea why this happened. Overall set was low, being less than 1 1/2" I was pretty pleased with my results. That makes it even more surprizing. If the drawweight was too high, the belly too round, and the wood to weak, it would have lead to excessive set first, before the belly starts to look like a spidersweb of crysals. but, the set was low, the cast was high, everything seemed okay. Then, suddenly, this HUGGEE crysal, at one very spot. Well, I'll draw it to 32" on my tree, if it's alive, I'll patch it. If it dies, I hope you guys will enjoy the vid! AFter patching, the belly will be planed and a strip of carmelized bamboo will be glued on it, with some reflex. Hoping for a drawweight of 140-150#, and if she survives that, I'll give her some nice double hornnocks... Will be something to look forward too! Nick
