Thought you might like to see them. They are made from 3-4mm veg tanned leather with nice thick bottoms to them. All hand stitched and soaked in hot beeswax to harden and waterproof them. If the opportunity arises, and the leather is suitable, I might make a few in Bulgaria as they only take an hour or so each from start to finish. Anyway, if anyone fancies one, they are down on the trade blanket. As usual, if anyone has any questions, please ask. Eric Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may never incur!

What kind of seam do you put in the cylinder portion -- overlap, butted....? I decided to start making on last night, but I had a bit of trouble getting the top and bottom curves right, so i decided to go for just a cylinder. Posts: 684 (05/22/09 1:33 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The easiest way to do the top and bottom curves is to place a sheet of paper on the floor, take a piece of string about three feet long, pin one end away from the paper, attach a pen to the other end, draw an arc on the paper, move the pen up the string six inches or so and draw another arc. Measure across the bottom arc the circumference that you want the tankard to be, and draw a straight line up from there towards the pin at the other end of the string. This will give you a perfect cone. The shorter the string is, the shallower the cone, and the longer it is, the steeper the cone. After all, a tankard is just a cone with the top chopped off. It was going fine, but then I set it in the wax for a second to turn the sink off, and when i turned back, part of it had shrunk, making me very sad. Try as I might, I couldnt fix it, even trying to shrink the entire thing. Any suggestions? Use a double boiler then the wax can't get hotter than the temp of boiling water. Once it's shrunk, bin it and start again. I usually just wait until the wax melts, then start dipping. If it forms a milky sheen, it's not hot enough. Mind you I have five gallons of wax melting down at a time, so I can usually dip a whole batch of stuff before it gets too hot. Its too bad that my first attempt failed. I had spent about 4 hours carving a really nice image of sleipnir on it, and another hours filling it in to make it look like a tattoo. This is why the maker of my leather jack (Thistle Leather, no longer in business) always included a written warning with their wares: "Hot Thou Shalt Not!" - meaning never use the leather jack for any hot beverages.
