Jim, you're a lucky guy! Phil is a great craftsman. I have a few of Sal's flutes, I have one of Jim's flutes...I'll have to participate in the
next one of these in the hope that I can have a "Phil" flute for my collection! I simply have to get back into this.
I would like to see more pictures too Mastershandflutes (sounds so impersonal, but I don't have your real name...)! I was looking through my side blown flutes I've made and thinking that I need to employ the new methods I've already picked up from the information you've kindly put on the forum. Thanks again for that. I'm looking forward to making some more flutes (thanks for the inspiration folks!). Tom |

It's funny how the photographs of things (flutes, stone points, bows, etc.) really get me inspired. At times, I'll even cruise around the web checking
out photos of things like this. There are some absolutely fantastic flute websites out there. There is something about the look of the bamboo flutes - each so
unique as they are...like the branch flutes - is just so cool. I can look at them forever.
That little photo in Mr. Masterhandflutes is killing me! Those look like some sweet bamboo flutes and I'd love to see a larger pic. Maybe I'll go look through my meager collection of flute blanks and see if that doesn't get me back into the action. I think I need to take some scrap pieces and work on my embouchure making technique. That's where I need some practice on these side blown flutes (especially the little ones, as I was whining about in that other post). Sorry to side track the IITH discussion! It would be great to see what you guys have made for each other though. Tom |

Any progress in the IITH Trade?
MastersHand...Dave....you guys still out there in Paleoland? If not, and if someone will be out a flute as a result, maybe I can pick up the slack by inserting myself into the game??? I'd hate to see a person loose out in one of these trades because it will result in reluctance to participate in the future. That would be a sad thing. I was bummed that I'd initially missed out on this one, but was too busy (as stated above) at the time to committ. If I can somehow help this all come together, I'd like to do it. Tom |

Ok, what's the deal with this trade?
Andrew (Mastershand)....are you out there bro? If you sent something to DaveAtlas...did he ever get back to you? Do you have his Email address or mailing address? Syrneh, if you got skunked on the trade, I'd like to send you a flute. Do you like transverse flutes? Getting in on this trade is my selfish way of forcing myself back into flutemaking madness. I just made a beautiful transverse flute (maybe my best ever) and I'm feeling excited about making more! I have some nice black bamboo that Sal was kind enough to give me. Tom |

sorry guys, i've been real busy the past couple days.
i did indeed recieve my flute! it's a gorgeous NA flute. don't know the wood, or the key, but it's nice! i havn't heard from dave whether he recieved mine or not. it is a large oriental feeling transverse. in a concert "E" penatonic. it was fire treated and carved! Tom, if you like i'll send you a flute like is in my avatar? i call those renissaunce minors. they are about 15.5" long. and are in a non-concert G# harmonic minor scale. just let me know your address, and whether you would like it natural, or carved, or i can do something with looks like a starry night, it's a little trick i do with water, and fire! just let me know! Ok Syrneh...I'm sure it will work out well in the end. I agree with your sentiment about such trades too.
Andrew: I would love to have one of your flutes. Perhaps I can trade you for one of mine. I suspect that your skills at flute making far surpass my skill, but I will do my best to make one worthy of a trade. I generally like undecorated or simply decorated things, but your starry night trick has me very curious! I'll leave the decision up to you. I tend not to decorate my own flutes very much as I'm not a very skilled crafts-person and I'm always afraid that I will go overboard on the decoration and ruin an otherwise functional item! Perhaps you can give me suggestions for improvement on my flute-making too. I will P.M. you my mailing address. Tom |

I'll get right on making it! i'll do a starry night for you! it's fun! Andrew |

That's too bad Syrneh. I would very much like to turn this negative situation into a positive one. I'd still like to step into Dave's place and
make an instrument for you. From our time together here, I suspect that you and I are driven by similar forces in making, playing and exchanging musical
instruments. In my time here on PaleoPlanet, so many folks have given of themselves to me in so many different ways. Aside from physical things, I am endlessly
given the gift of inspiration and the pure joy of sharing thoughts and ideas with all of you folks. In my view, the best part about these trades is that they
bring this sharing to an even higher level and that they help us in further cultivating the bonds of friendship between us. When a potentially negative event
causes turbulence in this little "pond" of ours, I think we should all seek to right the situation by creating even larger, more positive ripples
with the goal of canceling out the negative ones. Not so much for the benefit of any one individual, but for the good entire group. If you allowed me this
opportunity I would be indebted to you.
I hope this makes sense to you. If you would Email or PM me your mailing address, I would like to send you something that I made for you. Tom Paleoaleo at Gmail |
