Last year, in the news, there was a report of a submerged rock carving found at the bottom of a bay in Michigan. The carving appeared to be that of a mammoth.
The boulder which the carving was made on was sitting in a ring of boulders about thirty feet underwater. The divers found the mammoth carved boulder while
searching for wrecked ships. Anyway, the point that I wanted to get to was that the large mammoth, carved in the stone, appears to have a spear embedded in
it's side. And, the spear appears to be fletched. If this has been confirmed, then I think it is pretty good evidence that the First Americans were
throwing fletched spears, with atlatls, since there would be little or no point in fletching handheld spears.
