First I'd like to say thanks to all those I met there and especially those that took the time to help me learn how to flint knap (or at least get started). Special thanks to Emory Coons, Mick Hill, Stu, Lou, Terry, Steve (both) and Richie. These individual not only took the time to teach me about flintknapping but shared some of their art with me. The photos, while I may have taken them, are courtesy of the above individuals and others whose names I may have forgotten. Many of the photos do not do justice to the fine blades, points and other knapped art - but I tried. Feel free to send me information on any corrections/additions. My Friend Brad and His wife Heather, he;s thnning and she's knotching, or so they tell me. some of the experts discussing the imprtant things..... My friend Brad Phillips Digging in the rainbow pit Terry Kramer (sp) giving us a lesson. it was a good one too. I watched this guy make three of these blades in the short time I was there. Serenaded by the biggest didgeridoo I have ever seen. it was fantastic. I missed getting photos Of the two Bagpipers earlier in the day I wish I could have stayed longer. oh yeah, I did bring home some rock too! Posts: 288 (03/31/09 4:31 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think I thawed out enough now to post some pics. Saturday night and morning was pretty cold and windy. The communal tarp was wrenched from its anchors and the pole broke holding it up because of the wind blasting through at about midnight while we huddled around the campfire swapping stories of ......... well I dont think anybody'd like to know. But the rest of the week earlier was absolutely beautiful. Our humble camp. I couldnt believe it only snowed a couple times while there! At the communal camp with the experts windsong and MREJr at the black butter digs and their big piece they dug out Peter and me digging dacite MREJr is one determined little dude. I looked over to see him with 3 prybars trying to pop his nice piece of dacite out he was working on. Very clever lad. It was getting late and we needed to get back and there was 2 pieces we couldnt get out so I spalled them in the hole. note to self: stand to the side when spalling. The stuff is sharp! Duh! I got speared with a flying shard. \ Undermining the competetion at the midnight lace pit digging in the pit that collapsed on Emory and dislocated a rib. He was back to digging as soon as they popped it back in place. I even found a juniper strait and clear enough to attempt to make a bow from Overall, we had a blast, met some new friends and got a lot of rock. The weather was beautiful and we just had a great time.

We weren't going for the great big stuff Emory likes to get but it was probably a 20lb rock. Daniel, I really wanted to meet up with you and meet this tribe of abos you are bringing up. I had to leave the day before you had said you would be there. Maybe next time. looks like you had a successful trip. I made it home last night and the doctor says i pulled the ribs apart it would be better if I had broken it from the 250 to 300 pounds of dirt that fell off the wall in the midnight lace pit........the first friday of the knapp-in. But Big Bad Brad had me swinging the 30lb billet and i ended up with two 36 inch cores out of daycite. As for Stu Merdoc playing the diggery-do i was debating if i put the coca-cola can in it if it would sound better or fly across the fire pit.....hee hee. He plays good but acompanyed with bagpipes from Mic Hill you get snow instead of just rain. Fun was had by all and the rocks was flying. I personaly made about 40 blades 3 danish daggers un-stitched but triangle handled and a ton of flakes. Hope the weather's better next year but i'm not holding my breath. i'll try and get some photo's posted. Laters Emory Coons

Take more next time HAAA...Looks like yall were in the middle of.....Well...... nowhere! When I see those huge spalls of "BASIDIAN" or recent lingo, "ONYX" lol all I see is a lost foot, if they fell on you its over! I wouldnt know what to do with big rocks like that! Question: You called one pic, Sugar Obsidian. Is that like a Basalt like grainy stuff? Steve

Glad to hear you made it out of there Emory, and that we dont have to pry your freezedried body out of a pit so we can dig some more rock next year. Or that you didnt get blown away in some tornado gust blowing through. John, Im too sexy for my longjohns. Kirby, someday soon, mabey at the North Umpqua knappin, perhaps?? I'll be there the first weekend Fri thru Tues(May 22 thru 26) and then the next weekend Fri thru Sunday (29 thru 31). I hate it when work gets in the way of a good knappin and John, you gotta make it one of these times to the knappins. Ill have my entire tribe there for part of the time

Or better yet, make one while you watched. I've seen him do this and it's amazing. I've never met anyone who can do these. I bought three from him for when he gets really famous. Good investments.
