Finally I get a nice preform made, thinnest so far! and I hit a platform near the base and SNAP!!!!
@#!$%%@#$!@#%!~%~@#%%^@%#$&&#$%^&*$#*!!! is glue my only hope????

No, good support will help. I seem to relax in the support department when I start getting preforms thin and SNAP. Support Not Applied Properly then I think. Obviously Support Has Invited Tragity.

ya i was working a point the other night,was getting it nice and thin and then next thing ya know i had two pieces
of rock in my hands.i didnt even move a finger,i stopped and looked at my hands and the rock etc.i came to the conclusion i had not given it the proper support and thats why it broke,well thats the conclusion i came too,whether or not i was right in my conclusion i am not sure as i am very new to this whole knaping thing.but looking at where it snapped and how everything was positioned in the hands i concluded that that was the reason |

rebelace, You have come a long way to get to this point. Be proud of where you are and know that the learning continues. Many of us wish our skills are where
yours are. I have several unfinished broken "could have been beauties" I keep to remind me of mistakes I made and to keep banging.

Yep , look something like this?
when I did this earlier in the week I was told to "make two points" well here's two points and yes it's bad support and "end shock" . enjoy!

I don't finish my blades with a billet. The above is a reason why. I got another 10 years before I get to that point. I prefer to finish a blade with a
pressure flaker. Otherwise, I bleep till I pass out from being blue in the face.
I think it also depends on your striking angle and the size of your billet. Oh, and setting up your platforms right is critical. |
