finally got it |

after nearly a month of making smoke and wearing holes in boards i got my combination of socket (deer antler) hearth board and spindle (aspen very dry)
and bow (green aspen and nylon cord) and actually got coals 4 times this evening, i think i got it down now. we'll see if i can do it again tommorrow
with a new hearth board and spindle.
vegetarian? i thought green stuff was for growing meat!

That is awsome next time get some tender and a coal extender and make flames there is nothing quite like the crackel of a fire you made by friction you must
,if you dont already ,learn about coal extenders

thanks for the comment stave, its not a methid i would teach the local boyscout troop but i just light a cig off the coal then i got a live coal that will keep
for about 5 minutes, the down side is that after 30+ years of smoking i don't have the wind to do it without the bow and bearing block (ie. hand drill
method).

and results are repeatable, as long as i pay attention to my breating, i got it again with an new hearth and spindle after 2 days with rain making a new hearth
next to unuseable.

Hey, a wise man once said "git r done "!!! ha ha but really though coal extender is any material such as thistle down (my favorite ) cattail down
, punky wood basicaly it takes the coal and makes it bigger but does not flame up . by making a bigger ,hotter coal it is easier to ignite the tender bundle
this knowlage revolutionized my fire by friction success. I dont mean to presume you dont know this, I thought I would share it with you just in case. it
truly is a great feeling to make a fire this way isn't it? I still get a rush every time I do it.

it sure is a rush to get one going this way, and you never know how much the other guy posting has done. especially when he jusat posted that it is a new
technique for him, but i been camping most of my life and can usually get a fire going some way or another, like i told somebody in another post if i can get a
ciggarette going with it i can use that to get a fire going.when i was 15 my dad bet me i couldnt get one going with a smoke so i went and learned how.
