Also Im working on a deer skin that is really starting to smell, will a lye soak help kill of some of the bacteria, and help the smell? Thanks for your help, this is my second deer skin.

Just remember to rinse out thoroughly. There are several other methods to dehair and membrane the skin. Do a search through the threads on this forum, and you should be able to find something.

Just mix the bleach in a bucket of water and let the hide soak in it for a few hours, then rinse really good.
