drinking too much tea? |
Lead | |
|
I just finished a book last night about a group of Eskimos. They drank black tea [all they said about it] almost constantly when indoors the way it sounded.
My question is, wouldn't this dehydrate you, isn't black tea a diuretic? Obviously it had no ill effects on these people, but I just had to wonder
if just water would be better in such large amounts. Thanks in advance for any reply.

ok tea is a very mild diuretic, but it is also about 97%water, same with cofee, yeah they make you run to the outhouse somewhat more often but they also
replace most of the water your passing, it balances, you can probably find the research if you want more detail, but i had heard that for years, just water,
especialy where i am now in the desert, then i ran across the article that pointed out how much water is in teas and my own vice of coffee, i dont worry too
much about it anymore
vegetarian? i thought green stuff was for growing meat!

It apparently has no ill effect on them. From personal experience though, I can attest that coffee, with no other liquids, can cause problems. Once on a winter
campout where the high temperature for the weekend was -5 degrees F., all I drank from Friday evening until Sunday morning was coffee; as we had it going all
the time and anything else was frozen solid. By early Sunday morning, I was showing signs of dehydration; severe headaches and vomitting. As I got some water
melted and sipped it, things improved. Perhaps that is not a problem with everyone, but I am convinced it caused my problem; but then we have our coffee VERY
strong.

Tea may cause kidney stones in people that are prone to them. But green tea seems to lower the risk in women.

People up Nawth ..even the northern Indians boil the tea billy.... in canada & alaska.... I think tea is easier to brew that coffee is... in a tin can..I
think they add sugar if they have it. Books Ive read most any reason at all or none at all is reason to start a fire and get the tea billy going.....
I am sure in cold conditions hot tea.... helps to warm up your innards... & your hands and provides a feeling of" home & well being ". I know it does for me..and I drink coffee as well. Were I living outside all the time.... I would brew a cup often and surley would not worry about kidney stones. I probably would not brew coffee as much as tea ..cause the tea would just be easier..... IMHOP......

I asked a dietician about this today, she said that yes the tea is a dieuretic but given the amount of liquid, it's not going to cause any problems. She
also said that it is the caffiene that has that effect, that non caffiene tea is not a dieuretic . Hope I spelled that right

During maple boiling time I drink black tea made in sap water for days at a time. It doesn't seem to dehydrate me. Maybe it's the high sugar content
of the boiling maple sap?

Hi,
Well I heard on msnbc today show that chugging a bottle of water will just flush straight through your system. They said the body can only filture 1/4 cup of water per 15 minutes to obtain the rich minerals...also heard of a lady recently who drank a large amount of water in a short time period and died, toxic...over loads the system. |

Also my husband just told me that his nurse adviced him (being a diabetic) that when he is sick, caffiene keeps the blood sugar high.
