I feel that for the most part it is a good resource. Obviously not every article will be of interest to any one person. The articles are a mix of essay, scientific exploration and how-to. I think you can get some sample articles on their web site (not sure). Good luck Rodger

Not sure if it's still available or not. Been a couple of years since I read it. But it was always a good read. Think it came out 4 - 6 times a year.

Posts: 63 (12/31/08 9:59 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	about the only mag i regularly buy is backwoodsman, not all primative, a lot of black powder stuff and even some modern homesteading type articles but i practice a wide variety of skills so most of it holds my interest vegetarian? i thought green stuff was for growing meat!

They are a compilation of articles and well worth the money in my opinion. They cover all sorts of skills and crafts, goes pretty deep in depth and many articles are scientifically written. Its a great resource.

I am sure the people at my local book store hate me. When I know a new issue is supposed to be out, I ask them to go look in the back. Wilderness way on the other hand, I buy when a new issue comes out just because. Don't get me wrong it has alot of good info, but I don't really care for the poetry and philosophical stuff. Good magazine overall though. Also I tend to prefer Backwoodsman because it leans more heavily on homesteading and black powder.

The SPT is a great organization that puts out some fantastic publications. Their focus is on pure "primitive" stuff - little or no modern tools, etc. They are very serious about experimental archaeology. The principals of SPT are also the organizers of the Rabbitstick Rendezvous and Wintercount. Wilderness way is a magazine that puts out fantastic publications too. But it's not a "society" or organization like the SPT. The folks I know who are involved with Wilderness Way Mag, are themselves members and contributors to the SPT.

Actually, the Feb/March 2009 issue of TBM arrived in the mail last week, so the Feb/March 2009 issue of PA should show up soon..... Those two are the only magazines I subscribe to, due to finances. If I happen to have enough money on me when the latest issue of Backwoodsman is on the shelf (latest one is Jan/Feb 2009; I didn't see it last week, though), I'll buy that one too.
