Have always preferred primitive and have decided to go back to rivercane darts. I had given up on rivercane, several years ago, after participating in a rainy two day tournament. The rivercane had been treated with Formbys (SP?) several times yet by the second day of the tournament, the darts were almost spineless.. A spaghetti toss!! Does anyone have a good way of weatherproofing rivercane? Thanks… John

I didn't think cane grew that far north? I just rub bees wax on my two piece shoot shafts, or bear grease. Works well even in a week long Alaska drizzle. cheers fiddler49

In the past, did you scrape off that outter rind? I did that with arrows a few times, and always regretted it in rainy situations. The ones with the rind left on always held up well for me. Tom

They fly well for me .. so will go with fiddler's suggestion and periodically wax them. (I throw a little almost every day) Thanks guys........ John

Its polyurethane or something of that nature, but you might try posting this question in the arrow and quiver section. I couple years back I spent the weekend at a cabin on top of a mountain. It was very foggy the whole time. Sometimes you couldn't see 20 feet. Anyway I left the darts out on the porch and threw everyday. The second day they were all bending pretty easily, and all would have been warped when I got back had I not straightened them while damp and let them dry again straight. The outer waxy coating had not been rubbed off. I think the way around this is to avoid throwing in wet conditions unless you have to. Store your darts in a dry place, like the back of your cave, and only take them out for short hunting trips... But as you mention sometimes you have to throw in wet conditions.
