the fundemental started out as a very flat "e", i shortened the barrell some but it just didnt help. so i resigned myself to having a flat flute once again. then i remembered seeing a fiew flutes on here with 4 holes drilled around the foot of the flute. ive always liked the way it looked so i figured why not try it. low and behold it didnt sound quite as flat as before. thats when i really got to thinking...when you widen your finger holes the tone goes sharp. more air going out-the sharper the tone. so i widened the hole in the top and the bottom and wouldnt you know it it played the truest sounding E i ever heared! i just about jumped out of my boots! from there on out i used John Suttles way of tuning and it all came right to it.
