I am a 50 some year veteran fly fisherman. The "Black Flats" along the Esopus Creek have sent me caterwauling downstream many times. They are as
slick as a Teflon griddle. Some of those "Black Flats" are the chert in question here for those looking for Esopus. Disturbing trout waters is a
felony and I would never use my Orvis fly rod as a pick axe either.

Gary
FYI. The black normanskill you show is fine material but not the best. The high quality stuff is either grey or an emerald green. I did not see any of it in
the pictures Eric posted. Also from my experience there is only a very small area where the best Esopus lives. Thanks for the post. Good Luck

Nice point that stuff is kind of like Flint ridge in that it can be plagued with unhealed cracks.

He calls his business " CHERT NEW YORK" and sells at a lot of the shows. I forgot his name but I bet a number of PaleoPlanet members know him.
Anyway, here is a link to the Bald Eagle post and Eric of Ericsrocks posted a picture of the man with his two little dogs about at the end of page one of the
post.
