I've found that using moose hide sewn to the bottom of your soles works great and being such a thick hide makes it quite durable for many seasons and powwows to come....

Thanks Coggs, the tutorial was very helpful.
I had designed a pair of moccasin boots very similar to these and was not sure how to make the uppers.
Your explanation was very helpful. My trial boots fit well, I made a pair of moccasin-boots out of blue jeans.

Very good tutorial, I still prefere a brain tanned sole made from the neck portion of Elk or Buffalo it really holds up because it's thick..

I used shoe goo. I sanded the inside of the tire, which exposed the threads (light hand sanding did it), allowing the glue to soak into the threads and grab. I don't know how well they will hold up, I have just finished them, and need to wear them for a while to get a good feel for that.

coogs, thanks for the tutorial. Worked very well and are very comfortable. Soles are from old mountain bike tires, caused some problems, but in the end worked well.

Here's my first pair of mocs, thanks to the tutorial! These are for my friend, so they don't exactly fit my foot in the one pic.

Commercial deer skin with glass seed beads. I also added an extra layer of leather on the bottom as a sole.

I have been searching for a long time for instructions on how to make your own moccasins on the internet, and this is the ONLY one I have found that was actually clear enough for me to understand and in which I was able to follow the directions without a snag. Instead of using old cloth, I chose to use scrap leather to make my 5 year old son a pair of mocs for practice. Here are a few pics of the finished project!!

Heres my mocc's I made by following Coogs's tut. I modified it a touch by just making a low ankle style vs the knee highs.
