			<description><![CDATA[ Just read thru the rawhide tutorial.  Great info.  I hear of several ways of doing it.  I hear some uses borax instead of lye.  But never was there a mention
of neutralizing it.  But it makes sense.  I also heard some uses the the local car wash in the middle of the night.  Can&#39;t imagine you makin much friends

			<description><![CDATA[ Ok, took a couple deer hides last year and soaked them in saltwater and charcoal with baking soda ( no I don&#39;t remember where I go the recipe but that what
I did) What I ended up after fleshing the hides was a stiff hair-on hide. It is kinda stiff and absorbs moisture but does not smell, no rot just skin and hair.
Can I do anything to these hides to turn it into buckskin or do I just need to start from scratch this season?

rawhide done like in the rawhide tutorial without stretching and drying it, or you can rehydrate one that has been dried. I like to do it hanging up because
