			<description><![CDATA[ Okay, I brought one of those funny &quot;E&quot; clips to red heat and started straightening. Once straight I noticed lateral cracks that looked like
delamination of layers. I took it to the grinder and ground the edges a bit to see if they went all the way through. Finding they didn&#39;t I ground the edges
until I couldn&#39;t see the lines then through it back into the forge bringing it to nearly yellow and started trying to shape a knife handle, before it was

			<description><![CDATA[ I have access to half rotted railroad ties free for the taking. I look at all this wood and wonder if there is any reason these can not be made into charcoal.

			<description><![CDATA[ My local Borders has several copies of this book, and a couple days ago I spent some time thumbing through one of them. I was fairly impressed with what I saw.
This is in the same vein as Wayne Goddard&#39;s $50 Knife Shop and The Complete Modern Blacksmith: there&#39;s lots of info on improvised tools and use f
recycling to keep costs down while still making very functional tools. I plan to pick up a copy when I get a chance.

			<description><![CDATA[ i have an odd size drum frame that i need to make a bottom ring for and was wondering what would be the best way to forge the ends together? i&#39;m sure
drawing it out is where to start, but not sure what way would be the best for making a smooth solid connection. i&#39;ve repaired some african ones that
twisted both drawn ends around the opposite end, but found it to be a bit lose and flexed too much.

some good results.         I do most of my forging with propane these days just because it&#39;s easier and until now making charcoal was too much of a pain
(so much smoke i could hang hams and slabs of bacon in the trees).   i only use my charcoal forge for large scrolls and things that wont fit in the propane

6mm steel rod, tapering to the tips (which you cant really see in the pics for some reason), flattened handles to help you feel them move.

Im not going to explain dowsing as its not fully understood by anyone, one thing I will say is dont knock it till youve tried it, i dont even know how popular
it is in states, but its paleo!

I have seen several refrences for using kitty litter to make the lining for a forge. I have plenty of sand and grass for the adobe but no clay. Does anybody
know a brand of litter that will work. My guess is that the cheap stuff will be best but am not sure. Also any brands of charcoal that will work. The local
grocery store has 100% charcoal that is not in the bricquet (sp) form. Is this likely to be any good or full of imputities that... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Fired up the charcoal forge today and banged out a medieval-style bodkin arrowhead out of 3/8-inch square stock. The socket is the tough part. When I first
began flattening the end, it naturally went spoon-shaped rather than fishtail shaped. As a result, my socket, while functional, has a large opening at the base
of the seam where the round end fails to meet properly. How do you get the fish tail thing going?
